Get Your Best Ideas Appified!

Users

The App Idea Box empowers you to tell developers what kinds of apps you are looking for. Do you have an idea for a fun, cool or useful App? Did you see a cool App on one of those other phones? Use the App Idea Box to submit your best ideas, vote on the ideas of others and read actual developer feedback from your WebOS device.

Developers

Users are KING - and now you can see what your users really want. It is easy to find the most popular ideas and estimate how much your users might be willing to pay if you built them. If you are developing an App, you can leave comments for your users to let them know that good things are on the way.

Version 1.0.11 Now Available

Version 1.0.11 of the App Idea Box has been submitted to the App Catalog. This new version features:

  • Community Moderation
Ideas or comments that you flag as inappropriate will disappear from your App Idea Box. If enough users flag an idea or comment as inappropriate, it will be removed from the App Idea Cloud.

  • Duplicate Idea Merging
If you see a duplicate idea posted, flag it as a duplicate. A moderator will attempt to merge the duplicate with a similar idea. When idea merging occurs, the App Idea Cloud merges the newest idea submission with the oldest idea submission. If someone else submitted the idea before you, your version of the idea will be merged into theirs. When viewing a merged idea, you will see the original PLUS all of the duplicates beneath the comments. Nobody will lose credit for their submission and if your duplicate had an interesting twist, everyone can see it. This feature helps to keep the App Idea Box uncluttered and ensures that original ideas are not hidden amongst common themes.

  • Search Before Submit
The App Idea Cloud has received over 500 duplicate idea submissions. You will now need to search or navigate to a sub category before you submit a new idea.

  • Positive Only Votes
Ideas are now scored based on the number of people who like the idea as opposed to the percentage of people who like the idea.

How It Works

  1. Download the App

It all begins by users and developers downloading the App Idea Box from the Palm App Catalog. The App Idea Box is a free App available to WebOS users. You can download the app here.

  2. Log-In or Create an Account

Anonymous users can browse through the ideas in the App Idea Box - but only registered users can submit, rate or comment on ideas.

  3. Search

Before submitting a new idea, you should run a search. It is possible that a similar idea has already been submitted by another user. An idea that is submitted more than once will diminish its popularity by dividing the positive ratings.

  4. Submit New Idea

If nobody has already submitted your idea, click the "New" button to tell everyone about your great new idea! You are one step closer to letting developers know what you are looking for!

  5. Rank and Comment

Browse through the ideas that other users have submitted. If you like an idea, click the "Rank" button to tell the community why. If you have a question or want to comment about an idea, click on the "Comment" button. If you are a developer, be sure to leave comments so that your users know what is coming.

  6. Make Favorites

Some ideas are so great that you want to come back later to discuss the concept with other users and developers. If you star the idea, you will be able to quickly find the idea later.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When will "<some feature>" be added to the App Idea Box?

We cherish every one of our users. We are users ourselves! That is why we built this App and have long-term plans for continuous improvement. We cannot do it without you! We will be posting our roadmap on this web site in the very near future.

Following are some of the improvements already scheduled:

    1. Notifications

Currently, you can add ideas to your favorites. In a future release, you will be able to manage notification subscriptions.

    2. Idea and Comment Flagging

Unfortunately, every community has a few bad apples. For the time being, please notify us of inappropriate content. In a future release, you will be able to flag ideas and contents as duplicate or inappropriate. Flagged ideas and comments will be reviewd by our administrative staff to take appropriate action. When an idea or comment receives 3 flags for inappropriateness, it will be pulled immediately - at least until it can be reviewed.

    3. Idea Merging

With thousands of users, it is bound to happen that two or more people will have the same great idea. A feature is currently being developed to merge these similar ideas.

    4. Idea Editing

Currently we lock down ideas to ensure that the title and description are not altered after comments and ratings have been accumulated. We are looking at ways to update these ideas without impacting the integrity of the system.

    5. Longer Idea Descriptions

The App Idea Box has a 420 character limit on idea descriptions. While this is adequate for most idea descriptions, there are some ideas where more would be better.

    6. Idea Dates

We are tracking the time that each idea is posted - but we currently do not display this information. Due to popular demand, this information will be displayed in a future release.

    7. Conceptual Drawings

The WebOS devices come with a camera. Soon you will be able to use your camera to attach conceptual drawings to your ideas.

    8. Developer Portal

Currently, developers need to leave comments in the App Idea Box to notify users that they are working on an idea. In a future release, developers will be able to log into a web-based portal to flag ideas that they want to pursue. Additionally, when they start a new project they can keep users up-to-date with their progress.

    9. Idea Geniuses

Provide a list of our top idea submitters. These are users who submit the best ideas, measured by total positive ratings.

    10. Extended User Profiles

Provide a way to view all of the posts and comments that a user has submitted.

    11. Facebook and Twitter Integration

      Nuff said.

  2. How can I get my App Idea developed?

The best way is to provide a complete description of your app idea. The more positive ratings that your idea has, the more likely a developer will pursue that development effort. Be sure to search for similar ideas in the App Idea Box before posting a new one. Rating existing app ideas more highly will make them more attractive to developers.

  3. Will I receive royalties if my Idea is developed?

Ideas are exchanged freely in the App Idea Box. There are NO royalties paid for ideas submitted into the App Idea Box. If you are wanting a royalty, please approach a development organization directly, and do not submit your idea in the App Idea Box. When a user submits an Idea, they benefit because they have a chance of having that Idea created. When a developer delivers an App based on a user's Idea from the App Idea Box, the developer benefits because they delivered an App that they know someone will want or need. This free exchange of information benefits everyone, even without royalties.

  4. How will I know if a developer has started on my idea?

Many developers will notify you with a comment. Other developers may prefer to be more secretive about their progress and wait to notify you till they are done. Our goal is to open a creative dialog between users and developers so that everyone wins.
